Diagnostic Services
Histopathology
All biopsies are processed and reported locally at our Buderim laboratory. Our courier service covers the major Sunshine Coast hospitals, and over 90% of cases are reported by the next business day following specimen pick up. In some instances and depending on timing (eg urgent samples), same day results can be obtained. Reports are easy to read and can be adapted to suit the needs of your particular practice.
Cytology
Coastal Pathology provides the Sunshine Coast’s only local Pap smear cytology service (including ThinPrep®), and as such, our turnaround time leaves competitors for dead. HPV DNA testing is also available through our colleagues at Mater Pathology. All other general exfoliative (eg urine, sputum) and aspiration cytology is available. Our pathologists are also able to perform FNA’s (appointment required) for superficial lesions (deeper lesions are best assessed under imaging control).
Haematology
Routine full blood counts and coagulation assays are available. Both partners are extensively experienced in collection and reporting of bone marrow aspirates/biopsies, and we offer this service by appointment. In addition, Coastal Pathology is proud to provide an Oral Anticoagulant Management service for patients on long term warfarin. Please contact us to register your patients.
Microbiology
All routine bacteriology, parasitology and mycology is offered eg urine, sputum, faeces, swabs etc, as is some serology eg Hepatitis A and B, again, a greater range than most of our local competition. Specialised virology is referred to Pathology Queensland.
Chemical Pathology
State of the art chemistry and immunoassay analysers are used for routine chemistry profiles, as well as selected speciality assays eg hormones, tumour markers, vitamins etc..

Coastal Pathology aims to provide a comprehensive range of testing services that are supported by appropriate diagnostic pathology expertise in cytopathology, chemical pathology, haematology, microbiology and immunology throughout the Sunshine Coast region - providing a competitor to the existing large corporate pathology companies.
